6 Common Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid

0

Weight loss… something we all are eager to do!

Most of us feel like shedding extra body weight as soon as we can do it. Well, none of us admires the love handles or stubborn belly fat. While trying to achieve our desired body weight, we tend to forget about the way we are using and its potential side effects on our health.

Just to make fast-paced progress, we don’t want to question the way we are using it. From crash diets to using weight loss supplements, we don’t hesitate to go after these.

I can tell you a similar incident where one of my colleagues who shed weight drastically was later diagnosed with a severe type of anaemia that resulted in blocking her food pipe. She was diagnosed with Plummer Vinson Syndrome at General Hospital in Lahore. After months of treatment, she was finally able to have a stable haemoglobin level.

This is only one mistake… There are countless other weight loss mistakes people do while attempting to lose weight. If you are on a weight loss journey, it can be really difficult for you to know about these mistakes so you can achieve your targets while sticking to the right practices and having your desired weight.

Common Weight Loss Mistakes

Your dream body is not that away. Yes, you heard me right. But the condition is to do things right. Here are some of the best tips that can help you to shed a lot of weight without damaging your health. Here are some common weight loss mistakes to know about.

1- Tracking performance on a scale

Well, this is most of us.

We use a weight scale to see how far we have come and how much is still left to cover. Well, let me tell you one thing: tracking your performance only on the scale is probably one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Other than using a scale, try to measure your progress in loss of inches which is even a better measure.

2- Estimating your calories wrong

Weight loss is all about estimating your calories. Right?

When you consume fewer calories than your body requires, you tend to lose weight because you utilise the stored fat in your body. Sometimes, just because of fear we tend to estimate calories wrong. Yes, consuming too many and too few calories can impact your health.

When your calorie consumption is too low, your body will be deprived of the required nutrients. In contrast, too many calories in your diet will hinder your weight loss progress to a greater extent. So, make sure to estimate your calories right if you want to achieve your goals.

Also, try to add more fibre to your diet due to the numerous health benefits of fibre.

3- Losing muscle weight

For you, it can only be weight loss. But do you know there are different types of weight in your body? It includes water weight, muscle weight and fat weight.

When you just aim to lose weight, you can count muscle and water weight loss as weight loss. But the fact is that this is not the actual progress you need to make. Yes, because you will regain the water weight back. Similarly, muscle weight loss will make you weak. Your only aim should be to lose fat which is the real challenge.

So, to prevent muscle loss make sure to consume enough protein and exercise well. Further, don’t stop consuming carbs as it will only shed the water weight in your body.

4- Consuming liquid calories

We only count and consider the calories we are taking from solid foods. However, calories coming from liquid foods can be troubling for you. Yes, these liquid calories can be a huge problem for you when you are trying to shed weight.

Be it your smoothies or caffeine drinks that keep you going, make sure to not consume too much liquid calories. Liquid calories will never let you achieve your desired calorie deficit and will eventually affect your weight loss results.

5- Not drinking enough water

When we talk about weight loss mistakes, it is important to talk about water consumption. Yes, just like all other things it is important to have enough water in your diet. This is because water helps to remove the toxins from your body and keep your metabolism going.

Try to consume the right amount of water at the right time to achieve your weight loss goals really fast.

6- Not working out at all or too much

Exercise is a must when you are trying to lose weight. Workout can help to keep you strong and retain your muscle mass.

Further workout is also good for your metabolism. So, skipping your workout or overdoing it can be your biggest weight loss mistake to avoid.

Bottom Line!

Losing weight alone is not enough, but doing it right is all you need to do.

While you are trying to lose weight, make sure to avoid all these mistakes. It is always good to consult a nutritionist for a customised diet and workout plan that can make your workout goals achievable.
